What's your parenting advice?

As you all may (or may not) know, my son and his wife are expecting their first baby at the end of August.  (Just look at that tiny bump).  Her sister is hosting the baby shower next month in New York, and unfortunately I won't be able to attend.  (I'm saving my travel money for after the baby is born.)  Today in the mail I received a package from her sister with several pieces of scrapbook paper and these instructions....
1) fill out a page with a message or advise to the parents
2) a message to Quintin (the baby)
3) several "tip boxes" on various baby topics.
a) favorite games, toys, songs,
b)ways to save time
c) ways to save money
Kendra is making a "surprise" baby manual for them...I love it.
Now since I consider all of you my friends, I thought I would ask you for some tips too.  If you have any, please share in a comment.  And I will be sure to give you credit! lol
And here's my son putting together the baby crib.  He's gonna be a great daddy!!!!

Be blessed,
Debbi

Fantastic! what an exciting time for your family. Well, I'm not a Mom myself, BUT I am aunt to many.......too many to count off the top of my head. my favorite game/toy/songs.......let's see, I always LOVE to give the gift of books. it allows parents to sit with their child and not only connect to the story but too each other. songs......you are my sunshine and my bonnie lies over the ocean. congratulations grammy!

Congrats! Baby's arrival will be a great time to visit them, I'm sure, so it's good that you're saving your travel money for then (that's what I would do too).

Teething Tip: A damp clean washcloth works just as well as many of the store-bought teethers and is very soothing. Plus, babies usually like them just as much (if not more!). A damp clean cloth can also be used to clean their gums after meals and prepares them for brushing. =0)
I can't really take the credit for this one, it came from our kids' dentist! LOL - but it works!!!

Have fun with the project!

I usually put that damp clean cloth in the freezer and get it nice and cold first and it works like a charm. Use cloth diapers, cost less in the long run and does not fill up the landfill. Shop at thrift stores for clothing and shoes because they grow to fast to spend a lot on their clothing, especially since winter clothing will be more expensive. Find a group of other new mothers to join and then you can share the clothing and have mommies day out once in a while. MESSAGe TO Baby; Be blessed, you are a gift from God for a purpose beyond imagnination. other tips, read to the baby ofen, it helps, it bonds and it is just good for them, very soothing, Goodnight Moon is a favorite another fun one is Jo MacDonald Saw a Pond. Hmm too much, not there is so much more. :P

Congratulations to you and also to the soon-to-be-parents! This little angel will surely give you lots of joy and happiness. I'm so excited for you guys! I think I am not qualified to give the best of advice because I clearly have lack of experience but all I can say is to start each day with love and treasure every moment together. Time flies so fast and you'll be amazed one day that baby is already turning 1 and is already learning to talk and walk.

Debbi.....congrats to all....♥
Skin to skin contact is so important first, just lay with the babe and hum and sing and talk. Later on, go out in nature collect items and craft and craft, with leaves, acorns and, and....

Congratulations Debbi. I agree with the skin to skin contact. My daughter was a preemie, and skin to skin contact was promoted in the NICU. So, it's good for all babies. The best advice?? Do what feels right for you :-)

Hi Debbi! Congratulations on your new grandbaby.

My advice for the parents is to give yourself a break. Babies forgive easily so if you make a mistake don't worry. This is what our pediatrician told us when our first baby, now 20!!, was born. Get plenty of rest. Do your chores when the baby is awake, let him watch you and talk to him/her. Sleep when the baby sleeps, you'll need it. :)

I like the thrift store advice. Kids grow way too fast for designer clothes from a department store.

We liked singing "I'm a little teapot" and playing peek a boo. Great times!

while they did register at a store, they requested everyone to bring a favorite childrens book as a gift at the shower. My son loves to read...I read him Pinochio (the full novel) when he was only 5, we did a few chapters each night. :0)

good tips Pam. I totally agree on the mothers group, support is very important as a new mom. I belonged to several when my kids were little. Now I have you. :0)

you ladies are so right about skin contact. Greg (new daddy) was a preemie, and most days he only slept after a full body massage, and then laying on my chest. but I also think we all need that touch...contact with those we love.

our babies childhoods were great times. :0D
and for forgiveness? I use to tell Greg all the time that I was sorry if I messed up, but he was my first so he was my practice round. lol.
