a relaxing Thursday.

Amanda and I did something today that we haven't done in a very long time...we took the day off!  No kids, no work, no laptops.  Just her and I and the open road.  Ok, I admit, I took along a crochet scarf to work on while she was driving, but that's not "real" work, lol.  Amanda found a dresser she liked on facebook, so we went on a search to Curiosity in Blowing Rock, NC.  First we got a little lost, but getting lost in Blowing Rock is fun....this summer it will be time for another trip to walk the Main Street to see all the new shops.  Anyway, the shop Curiosity has some really neat items there, and next door to it was another neat shop, The Incredible Toy Company....that totally deserves another trip after payday.  I am one of those people that prefer educational board games.  Then my wonderful daughter treated me to lunch at Applebees, their 2 for $20 made it a great deal, we were stuffed.  During this time together we just talked and laughed.  It's great when your daughter is also your friend!
But now it's back to work, I jumped on a Blog/Fanpage Hop hosted by Theresa at Chatter from Texas, so if you're looking for some new blogs to follow, or are looking for new followers yourself, join me there.

I've put a permanent link to this Thursdays Get Together on my linky-party tab, so you can come on over anytime.  And I'll see you all tomorrow.
Luv ya's,
Debbi

friday fun game started by Mystic Wynd

My Besteam friend, Mystic Wynd, started this yesterday.  Join us for some fun, and share it for more.

Yay! It's Friday! Time to start thinking about the weekend and having some fun, good food, and balancing work with relaxation!

I'll start off the fun with five easy peasey(?) fill-in-the-blank questions and I invite you to share your own answers to them on your blog and then share the link in the Linky below (the linky is on Mystic Wynd's blog page, click here to fly there) by filling out the information at the end of this post! Please be sure to include the link to your individual post, not your blog home page! (And I would LOVE it if you left a comment too!) Here's the questions for today:

1) My favorite way to relax on the weekends is spend time with my family, or in my art studio .

2) My favorite place to head to for a weekend day trip is Suncrest Waterpark in Taylorsville, or Blowing Rock for some shopping.

3) I'm looking forward to relaxing this weekend.

4) I should really clean the house and carpets this weekend but I am playing with Owen instead .

5) When it comes to staying home on weekends, most people think I need to get out more!

Now copy these to your blog, fill them in with your own answers and then bring the links back here to share with everyone! The Linky will stay open all week! Enjoy - and be sure to help spread the word!

the blowing rock, nc

This past Saturday, we took 2 carloads of adventurers to The Blowing Rock in North Carolina.  While we missed the beautiful fall foliage by a few weeks, the views were still beautiful.  For those who don't know about the Blowing Rock, legend has it that an Indian chief wanted to keep his beautiful daughter away from the white man, so he hid her in the mountains with a squaw mother to care for her.  One day she saw a Cherokee brave and playfully shot an arrow towards him.  He was taken by her beauty, and they fell in love.  Some time later, the brave thought to return to his tribe as was his responsibility.  The maiden cried and begged him to stay, so he jumped off the cliff.  The maiden was heart broken, and cried to the spirit of the mountains, and a wind came and blew the brave back up and into her arms.

Now, while the formation of the mountains do create a unique wind funnel and Ripleys added this site for the snow that falls up, I'm not convinced that that wind would blow a man back up. But it is a beautiful story, with beautiful views.  The kids loved it, and this worked well with our recent homeschool lesson on mountains.  As you can see, everyone had a smile on their face, despite the cold temps.
This last picture is my favorite, the girls looking for their handsome braves perhaps?
