Saturday Shopping Link Up - Nana's orange

First, I want to apologize for missing my linky party last Saturday....it's been a little chaotic lately.   I talked about mine and Amanda's runaway day on Thursday, but I didn't talk about what else was important about Thursday.  This past Thursday, my mother, aka Nana, would have turned 82.  She went home to glory back in 2000, and I still miss her and want to talk to her, but I don't grieve as the world grieves, for I know the future, I will see her again the day I go home to glory.  But until then, I have my memories, and I searched out some pictures I wanted to share with you.  The first is my favorite.
You see, my mom was an artist.  And I have soooo many memories and stories of the times we spent at various art shows.  This picture is from the Allentown Art Festival held in Buffalo New York every year.  This was probably 1971 or 1972.  Some day I'll have to share about the time we had a Vietnam War protest, complete with the SWAT team in riot gear.  As a kid, I thought is was pretty cool.
When Mom became Nana, she was thrilled, and was the most doting, and fun, grandmother ever....every holiday and birthday, and even just weekends, were filled with excitement for her grandchildren.  Here we have my oldest son Greg, and my nephews Chris and D.J. dressed and painted as Indians, complete with fur vests that she sewed, shields that she helped the boys paint, and of course...war paint.  And she passed her artistic creativity on to her grandchildren, encouraging them to express themselves thru paper and paint.
She also played with adults, lol.  Always laughing and joking, I don't ever remember her yelling or getting angry, but I'm sure she did.  After all, there were 6 of us kids, growing up in the wild 60's and 70's.  There were many times she probably should have yelled at us, heehee.  We grew up roller skating in our dining room, having food fights in the living room, and bringing home strays....cats, dogs, and friends!  My mother was strongly independent, a single mother who managed to stay friends with her ex-husband.  There are so many things I could say about her, but the word the come to mind is...amazing.  My mother was amazing.  So to honor her, and your own mother, this linky party is dedicated to them.  Link up what ever reminds you of Mom, and if you can't find something that reminds you of your Mom, link up something orange.  That was Nana's favorite color!  And when you're done, if you are blessed enough to still have your mom around, call her and tell her what she means to you.  Don't wait till it's too late.

our first saturday shopping link up....back to school

It's that's time of year again...time for our kids to pack their lunch boxes and bookbags and head back to school.  So I thought I would set up a post where everyone can share a special item or blog post about going back to school!  And to start us off, here are a few items I found...
School is suppose to be fun, right? So how about this Back to School Bingo game by Second Story Window.  This game was created to help children improve their vocabulary skills, great for young children, homeschoolers, and older children struggling with words and just need a little fun push.  And how said Bingo was just for old people, :)
If you're having a back to school party, Chocolate by Kim will make you some sugar cookies in with a picture of your school mascot on top.  How neat is that?  And if your school doesn't have a mascot that she can copy, she has tons of other goodies in her shop.  You'll be sure to find something to satify!

And now on to the linky party.  You can add a link of a back to school item you would like to share, or a blog post with tips and stories about going back to school.  Just click on the link below and add your URL.  Then be sure to share this post with everyone you know, because the more who know, the better.  So let's linky party!!!!!

My baby as a baby

I have been very lax in keeping this blog updated, and several people (Karen in particular) keeps telling me to make a blog schedule, so I did.  And just because I like to be different, I am going to start in the middle of the week instead of the beginning of the week, lol.  So here it is...Sunday will be to showcase my CAPSteam members.  Monday I'll be starting a "One week left sale" where I will share my items that have only 1 week left of listing, and a coupon code to get 40% off those items.  Tuesday will be something about my life and kids.  Wednesday will be my BESTeam members feature.  Thursday will be for a special memory.  Friday we'll be looking at the talent over at Creating the Hive.  Saturday I am going to start a linky thingy for a Saturday Shopping Spree.  Whee, and my baby thinks I'm on-line a lot now, hahaha.  Speaking of my baby, since today is memory day, I wanted to share this picture with you.

This picture was taken January 2, 1942.  Oldest sister Joanne was 5 years and 11 months old.  Then David at 2 years 11 months old.  And then my baby, Chuck, at 9 months old.  He just turned 70 this past April, but he can still act like a baby sometimes, hahahaha.  (I don't mind telling you all that I wasn't even born yet.  I didn't show up until 1959.)  There was a total of 9 siblings in the Huntington clan, and they are all still close today.  Wasn't my baby cute? teehee.  Well, I'll see you all tomorrow when we'll buzz on over to the hive and see what's cooking.

Saturday Blog Shopping

It's time once again for Saturday Blog Shopping, and I'm going to use this opportunity to welcom Alison to OurHomeToYours.  I first met Alison 10 years ago when we were both working for a local furniture factory.  Then after Amanda moved home, Alison became her friend too.  Alison is married to a very talented photographer named Scott, and they have 2 wonderful and smart little boys.  Alison made some curtains for her new home recently, and enjoyed sewing so much that Scott bought her a new sewing machine.  Now she is a sewing genius!   Looking at her work, it's hard to believe she is still a beginner seamstress.  Must be her natural talent.  So, in honor of Alison, this Saturday we are offering free shipping for any item made by her.  Oh, ok, free shipping story wide!  And don't forget, since this is a blog shopping day, go to Quilts, Galore, and more and check out the other blog sales.  And here's a look at Alison's work.

SBS for June 12, 2010

It's a beautiful sunny day here in North Carolina, and time again for Saturday Blog Shopping! In case you don't know what that is, let me explain. On Saturday mornings, Debbie from Quilts Galore and more blog hosts a bunch of etsy shops on "the hub". Pick a blog, check out their shop, take advantage of the sales, then go back to the hub, and start all over again. A virtual mall without looking for a parking spot. LOL
So what is my sale today??? Good question. Wish I had an answer, I've been trying to get my wireless network working all week, so my brain is fried and useless for new ideas. So I've decided to honor any offers I have made in my previous Saturday Blog Posts, you just have to scroll down to find them :). But here are highlights:
BOGO, free shipping, 15% off vintage, 15% off total order. All you have to do is convo me with the date of the blog that you want the special on when you place your order. Kind of a game while shopping. :)
Here's some pics of our stuff, complete with links to our shop. And remember, when you're done playing my game, go back to the hub and check out my friends.

SBS for May 30th

It's time for my second Saturday Blog Shoppers. What is SBS you ask? Well, let me tell you. It's a group of wonderfully talented Etsy artists that list specials every Saturday, just for us blog hoppers. SBS is managed by a wonderful woman named Debbie (such a great name ;p) on her blog QuiltsGaloreand More. You start on her blog (or mine) then hop to any other blog on the hub to see all this weeks specials. The hub is located on Debbie's blog. Got it? Good, let's start.
This weekend I want to introduce my new shop on Etsy, vintagevinyls.
I have a love for estate auctions. You know, the fun of the hunt, then the thrill of beating someone else with the highest bid. It's such a rush, hahaha. I also love music, especially the old tunes. You know the kind, big band sound, love ballads, 30's and 40's are my favorite.
But you can only listen to so many records, so I thought I would share my finds with all of you. And to get it started, I am offering free shipping when you purchase 3 or more albums.

Then to keep the vintage theme going, I will offer 15% off any vintage item at ourhometoyours

So take a peek, go back in time, and I'm sure you'll find something to your liking. Just click on the pictures to be taken to our shop. And if you don't find anything today, bookmark the shop pages because I have tons (and I mean tons) more albums to list. And don't forget to let me know that you are taking advantage of this special by sending me a convo when you place your order. The discounts will be refunded via paypay after payment. So Happy Shopping!!
