the light after the storm

Yesterday was a dreary day.  I had lots of errands to run in town, and had Hannah and Owen with me.  It would sprinkle, then the sun would shine, then it would pour, then the sun.  It usually was sunny when we were in the car driving, and rain when we had to run from car to store, or car to office, or car to whatever. lol.  I am thankful we purchased the Chevy minivan with the DVD system.  While I did enjoy the movie, I am not thankful for having to listen to Veggitales, "The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything", multiple times.  But I did love listening to Owen sing the songs.  He only remembers every 3rd or 4th word.  It's funny to listen to.  The torando warnings came out on our way home.  Mandy and Brandon had car trouble on their way home from work, but while there were tornados south of us (welcome to NC cousin Susie), we just got the rain.  And this is what we get after every storm, and one reason why I love North Carolina.
This morning my heart is heavy, and goes out to the family of the 3 people who died when a "possible" tornado touched down just south of the state line.  I don't pretend to understand why some are taken and some are spared, that is God's job.  But I do know, that despite it all,
He is Good, and He is God.

Countdown!

Ok, the countdown has begun, 15 days till Brandon, Amanda, and Owen move back to NC from KS.  And not a moment too soon.  They had such a storm yesterday that Mandy was waiting to see a witch fly by her window!  I'm so excited and can't wait to see them.  Of course, it will be tight quarters here for a while.  2 families, 7 people, in a 3 bedroom house, but we'll make it work.  In this tight economy, families have to help each other just to survive.  They could stay in the art studio, but there is no running water, and with a toddler, running water is a must :) .  So, until their house is ready, I am just going to LOVE having my grandbaby back!!!!
WHOOHOOO!  My husband just built me an inkle loom!  I saw a woman weaving on one at a living history re-enactment and wanted to learn to weave on one myself.  After browsing the web for directions, I just gave my wonderfully talented husband a picture of one, and viola, it's made.  I so enjoy being married to a handyman.  So there's something you'll hopefully be seeing in our shop one day soon.

Amanda lives in tornado alley

Happy Tuesday all. My Amanda spent an interesting evening/night at her mom-in-laws waiting for her first tornado from yesterdays storm front. She lives in Kansas, tornado alley. She survived, but maybe now she'll be ready to move home to me???? Hmmm??? No pressure, no guilt. hahaha. I remember my first hurricane after moving to Texas from New York. As hurricane Alicia (back in 1984) moved inland, I was filling both bathtubs and all my sinks with water, and trying to keep my youngest son under the bed where it was safe(??). I had no problem keeping Amanda under the bed, she hates storms. After the first part of the storm, the eye of the hurrican came to town. Imagine my surprise when I saw my neighbors light their grill and grab a beer to "celebrate" the eye. I was sooooo ready to move back home to my momma where, while the snow gets deep and blizzardly, it doesn't move your house. :p A few months after the hurricane, my brother came down and helped us move back to NY, in a blizzard, on Christmas eve. Ahhhhh, weather I could understand.
