the 10 day YOU challenge - 2 songs

Here we are again on my 10 day (week) you challenge from BlogLoveTherapy, and this week is another hard one for me.
I think it would be easier for me to share with you the 2 genres of music that I can't stand....
1) hard rock...like ACDC, and I grew up on that music.  But now those screaming guitars and heavy drums give me a headache.  Yea, I know, I'm showing my age, but I prefer to call it maturity. hahaha
2) Rap...half jokingly hubby and I call it rap crap.  If I can't understand the words, why listen?  And of the raps songs that I can understand, why would I want to listen to a song that talks about violence, and hate?  Why not listen to songs that encourage us and lift us up?

One thing I can say is that while my tastes have changed since I entered into a relationship with Jesus Christ, I don't only listen to hymns.  There are wonderful songs in every decade, and I listen to them all.  And so does Owen...he loves 40's jazz, 50's rock and roll, 60's fun, 70's love songs, and he even knows the words to Freddie Fenders "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights". lol

My most recent favorite song is a worship song, and it just transports me every time I hear it.
"10,000 Reasons" by Matt Redmen.

The 10 day YOU challenge - 3 films

This week on the 10 day You challenge from BlogLoveTherapy I get to share my 3 favorite films.
Just like last week, this is going to be hard for me, so I'm going to share my 3 favorite genres in film...

1) Comedies..."The Philadelphia Story", "Bringing Up Baby", "Arsenic and Old Lace", "Bennie and June", "The Gods Must Be Crazy"....and of course, any Monty Python movie will do for me.  Basically, I like goofy and slapstick, and what my hubby calls "stupid" movies..."Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" comes to mind. :0)

2) Romance...classics like "The Philadelphia Story", "Summersby", "Love Comes Softly", "The Princess Bride" (which could also fit under comedies).

3)  Musicals..."The Music Man", anything with Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire.  I even like the more modern ones like "Mama Mia".  As long as the music is good (no screaming guitars please) and the story line makes sense.

Well, that's 3, but I'm not done yet! lol

4) Cartoons!  Classic Disney, of course.  But I also love the Madagascar series, Cars, Ice Age.  I'm just a big kid at heart.

5) Westerns...yes, I'm a John Wayne fan.

6) Historical Drama..."Hidden in Silence", "Schindler's List".

7) Action, as long as there's not too much violence..."10000 BC", "Men in Black", James Bond  but only if it's Sean Connery.

umm, I think that's cover most everything.
And I do have to say, that while I have seen a few, I detest horror movies....
Not scary movies, but horror movies with demons and such.

Now for my all time favorite, top of my list movie, that I will watch all year long...
"White Christmas".

Ok, that's my list...What's yours?

my 10 day YOU challenge - 4 books

Hey y'all...here we are at day (week) 4 of the challenge from BlogLoveTherapy.

4 books....hmmm, this is going to be very difficult because I am an avid reader and can not possibly narrow it down to 4.  So I will be breaking it down to 4 categories.

1)  My most favorite book is my Bible.  Yes, I go to church and have faith, but you see, I don't have "religion", I have a "relationship".  And my bible is God's love letter to me.  And one I could not live without!

2)  Next up, my favorite books from my past...you know the kind of books that are so well written that you can close your eyes and remember the story years, even decades, later?  I have read 2 like that...J.R.R Tolkiens "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" series, which probably everyone has read, or at least seen the movies.  Let me tell you if you have only seen the movies, the books are sooo much better.  The other series is "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant" by Stephan R. Donaldson.  They are similar to Tolkiens books, but instead of being a separate world, we are pulled into the world of "the Land" through Thomas Covenant, a modern day leper who finds himself pulled into the Land in his sickness.  If you haven't read it, I won't tell you anymore.

3)  The books I find myself drawn to today are mostly series and my favorites are...
"The Mitford Series" by Jan Karon.  A great series about the life of Father Tim set in the funny and cozy world of Blowing Rock, NC.  Only it's not called Blowing Rock in the series.
"The Left Behind Series" by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins.  If you are interested in end time prophecy, these are great fiction books to keep your interest, and I have found them to be scripturally accurate when compared to the Bible.
Any of the many series written by Beverly Lewis.  She is an amazing author who writes stories about life in the Amish community.
And I also love books written by Karen Kingsbury and Ted Dekker.

4)  This last category I am going to leave open, because there are so many books out there just waiting to be discovered.

my 10 day (week) YOU challenge - week 5 - foods

As many of you already know, I am participating in the 10 day you challenge from BlogLoveTherapy.   And this week we are sharing our 5 foods...

1)  Ok, hmmm, let me think about this...can you guess?
CHOCOLATE
nuff said.

2)  Pizza.  Seriously, I could eat pizza everyday.  But not just any type of pizza, it has to be hand tossed (thick crust) and don't try and slip any veggies or funny fish onto my pizza.  No sirree...just crust, sauce (sweet), cheese (lots), and meat!  Pizza Huts meat lovers!  I also enjoy Hawaiian pizza...ham, pineapples, yum yum.  Our local pizza parlor makes great Hawaiian pizza.  Plus, there is a pizza franchise around us where you can eat all you want for only $5.00.  "Welcome to CiCi's"!!  And they have a pizza made with Bavarian cream.  Yes, dessert pizza.  The person who invented dessert pizza should win the Nobel Peace Prize!

3)  Chicken.  I love chicken.  Grilled.  Sweet n sour.  Roasted.  Fried.  But I will not eat any of MY chickens.  There's something about eating an animal I have named and carried around my yard. lol.  Once we were eating at our local Golden Corral, and they have a chocolate fountain.  I was telling my kids how everything tastes great dipped in chocolate, so one of the girls decided to try it on her chicken.  Well, I was wrong.  Chocolate covered fried chicken? ummm, not so good. :0)

4)  Pumpkin.  This is a big reason why I love the fall.  It's only in the fall that I can get the pumpkin bread from Bob Evans.  Or the Pumpkin Spice creamer from Coffee Mate.  But since I've started canning pumpkin, I can enjoy pumpkin bars, pumpkin bread, pumpkin whoopie pies, all year long.

5) And finally, as you can probably tell from the links in this post, I love food that I don't have to cook myself!

If you haven't already, try this challenge for yourself, it's lots of fun.  And if you click on the top link for BlogLoveTherapy, you can see all the other great bloggers participating in this challenge.

the 10 day you challenge - week 6 - places

Ok, so it's time once again for the BlogLoveTherapy 10 day you challenge.  This week it's all about 6 places I would like to visit, or have visited.  This is not going to be easy because I am such a homebody...really...if I can't get there on the back of our motorcycle...then I'm not going. lol
 1)  ok, number 1  is actually a line of places...Chuck and I have often talked about traveling the old Route 66 across the country.  We didn't get to do it this year, but there's always next year.  Starting in Illinois, you then travel through Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, then ending in California.  With all those great small town stops along the way.  Yep, that's my idea of fun.
2) Florida...we have some children in Florida, plus nephews, and great nephews, and great grandchildren. We've been there several times, but next time we promised Hannah we would visit DisneyWorld.
 3)  The Outer Banks!  I love the beach, but not the crowds, which is why the Outer Banks is the best place to go for some fun in the sun.  We have been there several times, and in fact, Amanda and Brandon was married on the beach at Kill Devil Hills.  It was beautiful.

4) Washington DC is the only big city I have ever been in that I liked.  I've been to NYC, Houston, Baton Rouge, and have no desire to go back.  I don't like large crowds of people and a lot of chaos, but I have always enjoyed our nations capital.  I also enjoy American history, so this city is a great trip.  Plus...my boys live in Virginia right outside the city.  And any excuse to see them is good with me.
Well, you can't get to my last 2 places by motorcycle...but I would definitely take a trip to...

5)  Australia....the outback to be exact.  All the unusual animals and scenery would be cool to see.  I enjoy camping, and camping in the outback would be totally awesome.  The music, the food, the people, the accents...
And last but not least #6 - Petra in Jordon.  The fabled city in the rocks.  Petra has played an important part in the history of Christianity, and it will again in the future.  I won't get into all that the scriptures has to say about the world today, and in the future, but this is the only place that would give me reason to travel overseas into countries where there is so much fighting.  I've included a link to an awesome website with some amazing pictures of this place.
Well, that's my 6 places...so what do you think?  Where would you like to travel?  Leave me a comment (I love comments), and then visit BlogLoveTherapy to see others on the 10 day (week) YOU challenge.

Debbi

my 10 day you challenge - 8 fears

Hello again, it's time for my 10 day you challenge (but I made it a 10 week challenge, lol).  It all started (with me) over at Blog Love Therapy, which is a great place for creative bloggers to get together.  So let's start this week...

my 8 fears....

1) SPIDERS!!!  Even pictures of spiders makes me swat the screen with a rolled paper.  Actually I have gotten better, there was a time I wouldn't even kill them myself, I would just scream and run.  And the size doesn't matter, if it has 8 legs...kill it!  Here's a funny story, before Chuck and I got married, I was a single mom.  Amanda came out of our bathroom crying (she was still young) about a spider in the tub.  I looked at it and my solution to the problem was to close the door and window, and put a rolled towel at the bottom of the door until Chuck got home from work and was able to come over and kill it.  We spend the whole day with "our back teeth floating" because we refused to open the bathroom door.  By the time Chuck got there, that little spider was gone, and it took a week before I could walk into that room with shivering. hahaha
2) Heights.  I'm not really afraid of heights, I just see no reason to climb any ladder higher then 4 feet.  That's why I have men in my life, to fix my roof, to hang Christmas lights, to trim trees.
3)  The dentist...but I still enjoy the laughing gas.  It reminds me of my teen years. :~D
4)  Pit Bulls...don't bother telling me that it's the owners to blame when they attack.  Just don't bother inviting my into your house if your pit bull is loose.
5)  Big cities and large crowds of people.  I'm not really afraid of them, I just don't like them.
*insert the theme song for Green Acres*
6) The people I love getting hurt.  I don't even like to think about it.  I'm trying to figure a way to wrap my grandson Owen in bubble wrap!
7)  Thunder storms...I like to watch storms and lightening as long as they are far away, but once the booming is over my house?  Forget it.  I will sit on the couch and count the space between the lightening and the thunder until I know that the storm is moving away.
8) Finally, I am afraid of lists that make me confront my fears!  Now I have to go and check my bathroom for spiders.  Ugh.

Now it's your turn, share your 8 fears, and then link up your blog post here.

Be blessed,
Debbi
