Attention All Musicians, Beginners to Advanced

You all may, or may not, know, but I am not only a blogger and an artist, I am a musician.
And have I found a deal for you.
A free book.
Yes, I said..FREE!

Written by Professor Damon Ferrante, this lesson book guides you through 140 step-by-step lessons for beginner and advanced players.  The first and most important rule to become good at anything is practice, practice, and practice.  And this book is full of scales, and chords, and arpeggios, mixed with piano technique and music theory.  Designed to be interactive, engaging, and fun, it also includes 15 streaming videos so you can also see and hear the lessons for additional understanding.

Let's check out a few lessons...

The book starts at the very beginning...learning the scale and reading music.  Reading music is not important just for pianists, but for everyone.  If you can read music, you can learn to play most any instrument.

As you can see, the lessons get progressively more intricate, which, to me, makes it more fun.  It's all about learning and improving.  I especially like this book and will use it often to help me review and remember some of the details I learned (and forgot) from when I was just a teenager.

So, are you ready for the free part?
Just go to Amazon and download.
If you don't have a Kindle, that's ok, neither do I.  You can download this to your Android devise with no problem.

They also have videos for piano scales.

Now for my call to action...after you download your FREE copy of this book, please leave a review on Amazon as a favor to me.  A review should be at least 5-10 sentences long, and please click "Amazon-Verified Purchase".  And if you would also please please, copy and paste your published review and email it to me at mail@yankeeburrowcreations, or put it in the comment section of this post.  That would help me out soooo much!!  And trust me, once you try this FREE book, you'll want to let others know all about it.

Attention All Musicians...

It's been a while since I've featured a handmade artist on my site, and even longer since I've featured one from Etsy.  But when I saw the creations from Black Flamingo Design on one of my facebook feeds, I knew I had to share.

Louise Iacono is the artist behind this shop, and she creates this amazing jewelry from guitar picks.  I have been playing the guitar for years, and just recently started to play the mandoline....
but I never would have thought of this...and I will never look at a pick the same way again. lol

She not only makes bracelets, but earrings...with guitar strings and picks.

My Fall Line Up

Well, the Evening Farmers Market here in Statesville is over until next April.  Here's a peek of my fall items I had for sale, and once I get photos taken, they will be listed in my The CraftStar Shop.

Hannah was even photographed a few weeks ago for our local newspaper.

Here's a little guy that I didn't get finished in time for the market...but there's still time to take him home for Thanksgiving (once I take better pics and list him).

Well, I guess my work isn't going to finish itself, so I need to get back on the crazy merry go round that is my life.  I have 3 more craft shows this month, plus my boys coming home for Thanksgiving, plus the crazy busy 4 day weekend...

Are you ready for the year end mad dash????

Igudesman and Joo with a dash of 2 Cellos

I LOVE THESE GUYS!

I was trained in classical piano for years as a child, and I have always loved classical music, but I will be the first to admit that it is not everyone's style.  Last night I was flipping through the channels and stopped on PBS for some Motown sounds, which little Brandon and I danced to in the living room.  After that they started a show featuring a piano and violin.  Yep, Brandon went to his room to play, but I didn't bother to change the channel, and I'm so glad I did...
it was Igudesman and Joo, and if you have never heard of them, you are missing out.  They take classical music and make it A SHOW!

Then there was the 2 cellos...

Man, I am ready for a live concert!

So what do you think?  Would Beethoven be proud? Or scared? lol

Family News...

We've been busy here at the "farm", the chickens are growing like crazy, and the ducks are even crazier.  We moved them from the heat box in the shop, to their own coop outside.  Of course we had to add boards  and plastic to the sides since our nights are still too cold for them.  In fact, I have the sugar water out, but haven't seen beak nor feather of my hummingbirds yet. :0(

We named the ducks Daffy and Quakers.  Quakers is super loud and a big chicken! lol  They run from us and try to hide under the smaller chicks.  Hannah likes to crawl into the pen with them, but I can't squat down enough to get in there. Besides, crawling around in chicken poop is not my idea of a fun time.

Speaking of a fun time....

Wednesday was Hannah's 12th birthday, so she has now officially been with us more than half of her life. She was 5 1/2 when she came to us, and it's been a trying and difficult journey, but with a lot of love, prayer, and therapy, things are getting better every day.

Yep, she asked for, and got, makeup!  Aghhhh!  I had to talk Chuck into it, because he hates it when any of our kids grow up...and she will be our last, except for grandchildren.

Speaking of grandkids,  I was notified yesterday that my son Greg and his wife Kristen are having a boy!  Quintin Lee will be here around August 8th....I'm so excited.  This will be their first baby, and it's about time. hahahaha.

Now I'll leave you with this, Tuesday was Hannah's spring concert for school, and she auditioned for the solo part and got it.  We are very proud of her.  Here she is singing "livin in the rain" originally by Jeff and Sherri Easter.

Where, or where, to sell my vintage?

Amanda and I have had a shop on Etsy for a few years now, but it's getting time to move on.  There have been too many changes there and it is moving away from the wonderful handmade venue that is was at first.  And now for the vintage sellers there, I'm hearing the same complaints of getting lost in the resellers and new searches and front pages.  If you have been following my blog, y'all know that we are starting to sell our handmade items on Handmade Artists, for 3 main reasons.
1.)  IT'S ONLY HANDMADE!!!
2.)  They promote ME and MY SHOP like crazy.  Yes, I have to work at it, but every item I list is tweeted and they have several sites that I am able to post my items for even more views.  Which is good for my SEO links too.
3.)  The customer support is out of this world!  And the camaraderie and support from the other artists is awesome.
Now, with that being said, I went on a search for a site to sell my vintage items.  Since I am a flea market fanatic, and love estate sales and auctions, I have way too much stuff for my little house.  So I did a Google search for "vintage items for sale on line" and the top result was Junkables.com.  I like the look of this site, a large front page with lots of items to scroll through, 42 sections to make your specific shopping easy, and an easy to use search link.  On the front page you'll see a link to their blog, and a chat page to connect with other vintage lovers.  So, let's see what items I can find...

The first section I checked out was music, since I have tons (and I mean A LOT)  of albums.  What a great collection of music memorabilia.  There were not just albums, but sheet music, instruments, and collectibles.  I got a kick out of this album by Tiny Tim.  I remember watching him the first time he appeared on the Tonight Show.  So funny!
You'll find Tiny Tim and much more Rose's Shop.

Next was the toy section...I had a pair of these metal roller skates!  You adjust them to fit your feet with a nut and bolt in the middle, and then head down hill hoping that the leather straps don't break. hahaha.  It was so much fun.  Falling was easy on these, but what is childhood without a few bumps and scrapes.  We actually used to skate in our dining room when the weather was bad.  I found these in the shop of Trish Harritt Antiques.

Now I'm off to test their search option...I'm in the mood for Fisher Price, since I tend to collect those items for myself.  I found this great play doctor bag, complete with all the needed tools for any budding doctor (or nurse).  It looks like it's in great shape, and is very reasonable priced.  I found this in the shop of Nothing New Antiques.

I had to register as a member to be able to contact any of these shops, or to purchase any items, but that's not unusual for most selling venues.  The registration was easy, and over the next few days I'll be checking out the selling option here.  If any of you have ever bought, or sold, on this site, please share your thoughts here for the rest of us.  And until then...Happy Days to everyone.

The 3 minute Nutcracker

This past week, my Hannah performed a Christmas concert with her middle school choir.  I picked out my, and her, favorite song to share with you, "The 3 Minute Nutcracker".  We've seen the ballet, several times, but this song is great.  I should have brought my camera tripod with me, because 3 minutes is a long time to hold up a camera. LOL.  Enjoy.
Have a blessed Christmas everyone....and take some time to spend with the kids.  If you don't have any of your own, borrow a neighbors, all kids need adults that care.

the 10 day YOU challenge - 2 songs

Here we are again on my 10 day (week) you challenge from BlogLoveTherapy, and this week is another hard one for me.
I think it would be easier for me to share with you the 2 genres of music that I can't stand....
1) hard rock...like ACDC, and I grew up on that music.  But now those screaming guitars and heavy drums give me a headache.  Yea, I know, I'm showing my age, but I prefer to call it maturity. hahaha
2) Rap...half jokingly hubby and I call it rap crap.  If I can't understand the words, why listen?  And of the raps songs that I can understand, why would I want to listen to a song that talks about violence, and hate?  Why not listen to songs that encourage us and lift us up?

One thing I can say is that while my tastes have changed since I entered into a relationship with Jesus Christ, I don't only listen to hymns.  There are wonderful songs in every decade, and I listen to them all.  And so does Owen...he loves 40's jazz, 50's rock and roll, 60's fun, 70's love songs, and he even knows the words to Freddie Fenders "Wasted Days and Wasted Nights". lol

My most recent favorite song is a worship song, and it just transports me every time I hear it.

The Hiddenite Festival of the Arts

I love fairs, and festivals, and tractor pulls, anywhere you can make fun family memories, and find great arts and crafts.  This past Saturday, Amanda and I took the kids to our local Hiddenite Festival of the Arts.  It's a nice festival, not real big so you're not out all day long, or being smushed by thousands of people.  But my very favorite part of the Hiddenite Festival is the live music, especially The Appalacian Steely Pan Steel Drum Band from Appalacian State University.
We got there early to get a good seat, but as you can see, it's still hot here in North Carolina...poor Owen was turning red, but he loves music and refused to leave, lol.  So Aunt Hannah kept him supplied with snow cones.  As you can see, the benches fill up quickly, but the wait is worth it because this band puts on a great show.  Take a look.

I love how they get into it!
I'll be sharing more about this festival in the next few weeks...there was a lot of great booths there, and some really talented artists.
So take some time out from your hectic scheduale and visit a local arts and crafts festival near you.

Debbi

Hannah's talent show

Today was Hannah's 5th grade talent show at her school.  She chose to sing "Battlefield" by Jordan Sparks.  She practiced, and practiced, and practiced.  So much so, that I even knew the song by heart.  There are 2 videos because, while she started out strong, she got nervous and stopped.  The second video is the one I'm really proud of...because she came back and finished the song, despite her fear.
I hope you all enjoy it.  I did.  (yes, I cried too)

Debbi
