A month or so ago, I was having a "feeling good" day, so hubby and I went on a date.

And we did what we always do on a date.

Dining and Junking.

First we stopped at our favorite antique shop in Taylorsville NC, 

Treasure Cove Antiques.

Here's some treasures we uncovered.

(warning...lots of photos, lol)

I've shared pictures of the Blue Lady before, but look...

...we found her sister!  In a coffin, no less.

A wicker wheelchair.  I love the leg rests.

My Manda-Panda had a Cabbage Patch doll when she was little.  Took it everywhere.

And right next door is West Main Antiques.

Doesn't this look inviting?  We loved it.  Let me show you some great items we found there.

I've seen quite a few of these in magazines, and would love one for myself, but it would take up most of my living room.

This was a table top, with a very intricate pattern of inlaid wood.  The work that went into this must have been extensive.  Beautiful

And my favorite booth in the place...

Doesn't that just look inviting? Makes me want to pull up a chair and have a cup of tea.

Can you imagine cooking on this stove?

This is the kitchen ice box. And it's in unbelievable condition.

Post Modern Jukebox

Time For A Little Local Shopping

When you shop, do you look at labels?  Do you wonder where the item came from?  Who made it?

I know I do, and that's why I really like Scott's Marketplace.

You can search by location, and thereby support your local small businesses.

I like this sign.  It's much better than the "oh, the smoke detector went off, dinner must be ready" comments I get around here. lol

I love handcrafted soaps...they are so luxurious and scrumptious.  I tried making my own, but it is very time consuming, so let's support Karess Kraters Apothercary and let her do all the work in Holly Springs.

Speaking of time...that's all I have this morning.

Time to get my girl going on her schoolwork.

YBC Artist Feature - Jayne Roberts from I Do Vintage

It's been a while since I've had the time to post an artists feature...so I am thrilled to bring to you....

 What is the story behind your shop name?

I Do Vintage was launched following my daughter's wedding.  I made a monogram cake topper, vintage suitcase card holder, and personalized hangers for her bridal attendants.  I loved doing it and felt that I could provide the same quality items for other brides at a reasonable cost.  The name came about because of the wedding focus, and also because the theme of her wedding was elegant vintage, so the items I make reflect that theme.

Where, when, how did you learn your craft?

2014, by trial and error, watching videos, and lots and lots of practice!

What has been your biggest obstacle, or challenge, to finding and achieving success?

Getting the word out that I have started this business.  Word of mouth has definitely been helpful.

Married for 23 years, One daughter, married and in medical school, one son, senior in college, 2 stepdaughters and 3 grandkids.

Tell us a little bit about where you live....city, farm, suburb.

Vintage At The Marketplace

I really love vintage items.  Anything old just speaks of home, and family, and love.  There is so much to learn from our history, but many of us today just want to rush rush rush, and we miss so much until it's gone.  So, on this throwback Thursday, I took a stroll down memory lane at 

Scott's Marketplace.

I have a "thing" for cameos.  They are so fragile, yet so romantic and beautiful.

I have many cameo pieces in my collection, and I may just need to add this

I found in the shop of 

Nonpareil.

I am a firm believer that things of beauty should be used and enjoyed, not kept "safely" in a box on a closet shelf.  I regularly use many of my own vintage glassware pieces at parties and even just for everyday dinners.  

But when it comes to this Culver Glass Company Bar ware / Coctail set, you may want to keep it for those very special occasions.  Because it's not easy to find complete sets of most anything vintage today.

plus a lot more wonderful items.

Ha!  My son loved Pee Wee Herman...and so this pick is for him.

The Pee Wee Herman Talking Doll comes with Chairy puppet, and when you pull the string, he talks. hahaha.  Now I have that goofy laugh stuck in my head.

I found Pee Wee at Joan Brandenburg Designs.

My mother LOVED Tom Jones.  I remember the big console we had with a record player, and an 8 track player.  It was all black plastic and I thought we were really cool.  She had a few Bill Cosby records also.  I still enjoy the sound of vinyl.

Doing A Little Window Shopping

I finally got to spend some time in my studio yesterday...but with a space heater as my only source of heat, it was just too cold to stay there long.  But I got some work done on a bracelet, and sorting out my other mess.  Now I'm ready to see what great handcrafted items I can find on my favorite sites.

I love the casual color and style of this dark silver heart necklace from Island Girl Expressions.  I just think this would look great with jeans and a comfy button down shirt...laid back and feminine...all at the same time.

These vintage pot holder dresses are just too adorable!!!!  You can find these and other great vintage doilies in the shop Chameleon.

I love this Bridal Clutch from MyEuropeanTouch.  I would use this for more than just a wedding (especially since I'm already married, lol).  This would be great for any special occasion.

I'm Having A Throw Back Thursday

An old friend of mine just connected with me on facebook last week.  We were in our church youth group together, so now he made a page and we are all (most) getting caught up with our lives.  Check out this pictures...

What a great group of friends, and they all made in impact in my life.

Speaking of throw backs...look what I got from our church's yard sale!

Isn't that totally cool? An orange rotary telephone!  Time to turn back the clocks and turn in my cell phone.  I wonder if I could find a party line. lol

New Listings at Yankee Burrow

I've been trying hard to increase the quantity of my inventory in my shop, and I've managed to get quite a few items listed.  My problem is not in the creating....it's in taking photos and thinking of tags and descriptions and SEO and promoting and blah blah blah. hahaha

 

 

I have been on a baby kick lately.  I "discovered" the cutest patterns for baby booties and footwear from Two Girls Patterns, and these Bright Orange Sandals are just one pattern of many.  These orange ones are sized for 6-12 months.

 

 

Here's the same pattern, but in Bright Yellow and sized 0-6 months.  Both sandals have hot pink buttons, but I used heart shaped buttons for the smaller ones.

 

 

How's this for color?  I had created this Acrylic Blue Flower Necklace for my old shop, but then I redid it and created 2.  One for me, and one for you. :0)

 

 

Here's a new piece for my vintage section, a green and rhinestone choker.   I found this at a local estate sale, and the colors are so much prettier in real life.  (I really need to work on my photography skills, lol.)  It makes me think of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany's.

 

 

This last item is a crochet star blanket that I just finished, after the 4th of July of course, haha.  These are just some quick pictures, and hopefully I will have better pictures and this listed next week.

Friday Artist Feature - Gerda Collins

I love art.  There is just something so relaxing and soul satisfying about art.  Yes, I know, some art is created to make you feel, and react, and all of that, but sometimes we just need to enjoy what is sweet, and pretty, and soft.  And that is the kind of art you'll find in Gerdas Garden.

Here is a great print of her watercolor Morning Glories.  I love watching these grow wild (usually in my vegetable garden) and the colors are so pretty.

This is what Gerda herself has to say about her artwork...

"My work has a softer caste to it, that is on purpose. I seek a gentler way and a kinder spirit to reach out to the world."

I couldn't agree more.  I've also discovered that Gerda is busy with her 2 other shops...

How adorable is this pink pom pom hat?  You can find all sorts of cute crochet items in her shop Gerdas Goodies.  She does some sewing also, and makes nice totes and bags.

In her shop Gerdas Garage is where she has collected her vintage items, like this awesome Graceland Pink Purse.  Yep, Gerda is a woman after my own heart, handmade and vintage....you can never have too much of either.

Want To Know How To Have A Great Weekend?

Easy, grab the ones you love and do what you love.  For us, that was going antiquing.  And this weekend we went to an amazing local (and very large) shop, Fantastic Finds.  4 buildings stuffed full of history. Check out what I was drawn to during this visit.

I just love everything Americana.  This table and chair set was right up my alley, and the quilt and server set looked great on the table.  When you're selling, presentation is everything.

Look at the details on this wicker baby buggy.  And the umbrella? Perfect.

Yep, it was a baby buggy kind of night.

This coat rack is not really my style, but I had to share it.  An old door, small table, and mirror, creates an interesting entryway.

And this last one?  Isn't this a great idea for display?  This is something I am going to make for my craft tent.  (Actually Chuck will make it for me. :0D )
