Vintage Fun

A month or so ago, I was having a "feeling good" day, so hubby and I went on a date.
And we did what we always do on a date.
Dining and Junking.
First we stopped at our favorite antique shop in Taylorsville NC,
Here's some treasures we uncovered.
(warning...lots of photos, lol)
I've shared pictures of the Blue Lady before, but look...
...we found her sister!  In a coffin, no less.
an old telegram machine
a check printer
I forgot what this is, but it looks like something Dr. Frankenstein would use.
A wicker wheelchair.  I love the leg rests.
My Manda-Panda had a Cabbage Patch doll when she was little.  Took it everywhere.
Here's a selfie of me and hubby in a few years. hahaha

And right next door is West Main Antiques.
Doesn't this look inviting?  We loved it.  Let me show you some great items we found there.
I've seen quite a few of these in magazines, and would love one for myself, but it would take up most of my living room.
This was a table top, with a very intricate pattern of inlaid wood.  The work that went into this must have been extensive.  Beautiful

And my favorite booth in the place...
Doesn't that just look inviting? Makes me want to pull up a chair and have a cup of tea.
Can you imagine cooking on this stove?
This is the kitchen ice box. And it's in unbelievable condition.

Check out the facebook pages of these two shops, and if you're ever in the area, be sure to stop by and tell them I sent you.

Want To Know How To Have A Great Weekend?

Easy, grab the ones you love and do what you love.  For us, that was going antiquing.  And this weekend we went to an amazing local (and very large) shop, Fantastic Finds.  4 buildings stuffed full of history. Check out what I was drawn to during this visit.
I just love everything Americana.  This table and chair set was right up my alley, and the quilt and server set looked great on the table.  When you're selling, presentation is everything.
Look at the details on this wicker baby buggy.  And the umbrella? Perfect.
Yep, it was a baby buggy kind of night.
This coat rack is not really my style, but I had to share it.  An old door, small table, and mirror, creates an interesting entryway.
And this last one?  Isn't this a great idea for display?  This is something I am going to make for my craft tent.  (Actually Chuck will make it for me. :0D )
So, what did you do over the weekend?

How to NOT sell your vintage items

Just a quick post here. While running errands today we stopped at our favorite antiques mall. I want to share with you what you should not do to sell your vintage items.
1.) leave dirt and grime in or on it. I'm not saying to refinish your items, but at least clean them up.
2.) leave food in the items
Here are 2 photos to prove my point.

New finds from the Treasure Cove

The other day, we spent the day running errands, and for our reward, we stopped at our favorite local antique shop, The Treasure Cove in Taylorsville NC.  Want to see what I found?
(now please remember I took these pictures with my phone, and Picassa can only help so much, lol)
I love how someone took these vintage hand drills and created a towel/coat rack.  It gives me an urge to ransack Chuck's work shop, but he told me to keep out. hahaha
In the same booth I saw this wonderful corner shelf made from a vintage wooden door.  Chuck just shook his head and walked away.  How did I ever fall for this man????  :-)
Vintage electronics is a real love of mine, and the design on the speaker of this radio is just great!
And lastly.....my downfall.....furniture
I just love old cupboards, and side boards, and dressers.  This one had a wonderful old latch, and when I opened the door, I was engulfed with the lovely old musty smell from a cupboard that has been used for generations.  I told Chuck that when I "redo" my kitchen, I would love to toss out all the cabinets, and just line the walls with old cupboards like this.
Now I'd like to leave you all with links to a few of my favorite vintage lovers blogs.  I get to live out my hidden vintage desires thru them, and it keeps my home from getting too cluttered.  :-)
Kris from Junk Chic Cottage
Susan from Must Love Junk
and Angie (who lead me to them) from Knick of Time.
If you enjoy vintage, you'll enjoy them.  Till next time....

Today's discoveries

Look what I found today at our local antiques shop.
This is what you might call a red neck hillbilly china cabinet. Definety hand made.  And there are no words for this next item.
Please be kind. Remember, this is a family friendly blog. (I laughed so hard when I saw this I almost cried).  For those who don't know, this is (I think) a feeder for a baby calf. :0)

my new old suitcase

I looove yard sales, flea markets, estate sales and auctions, because you never know what treasure is hiding there waiting to be discovered.  Look what I discovered at our church's last yard sale.

The moment I saw this suitcase, (on a Wednesday) I fell in love with it.  So much that I had to hide it until the sale on Saturday.  Hubby just laughed at me, he's used to my eclectic tastes.  Which mostly means that nothing in my decor actually matches. LOL.
It's like a hard cardboard (not plastic and not wood) with that clear plastic handle.  The locks still work too.  So I brought it home then had to decide how to show it off.
I though I would keep it on this hat dresser that I scored at an estate auction down the street a few years ago.  (Hubby knew he was in trouble when I called him and told him to bring down the truck).  I even thought I would use it to showcase the vintage doilies that I inherited from my grandmother.  But I wasn't crazy about how it looked.

This is where I decided to keep my new case.  Tilted on the side.  I like it.  And Owen likes that fact that now my vintage Fisher Price garage is eye level and ready for play time.  Hmmmm, I wonder where I ever put my small vintage carry on case that I got from my great-uncle Pete?  It would look great here too.  So, what family heirlooms or vintage items do you show off in your home?

when the kids are away.....

....mom and dad will play!  Yesterday was the first day of school, and Chuck and I had planned a day of bike riding and antiquing,  because this is what happens when Chuck gets the bike out when the kids are here.   Yes, Owen has his very own helmet, and loves taking a little spin, (don't worry, it's a very little spin around the house).  So, as you can see, Mom (me) never gets a ride from the beginning of June till the end of August.  Yesterday, Owen came over to play, so today was OUR DAY, and that back seat was mine, baby!  So after prayer meeting, we did what we love best; went out to eat, and then antiquing.  There are several local antique shops that we visit quite frequently.  Today we visited Benny at Treasure Cove Antiques in Taylorsville, North Carolina.
You never know what you will find there, from one visit to the next.  And that is the fun of antiquing.  For example, this really cool pop-corn machine!  It stands about 4 feet high, and it still has pop-corn in it! (ummm, yuck).
And then there was this very awesome view finder from my grandmothers era, sitting next to the view finder from my era.  Hey, wait, my era???  An antique??? Oh my, hahaha.
But keep your hands off grammas view finder, that's mine next pay day. :-)

Have you ever noticed how a sound, smell, or sight, can transport you back in time?  That's what these items did for me.  This lamp looked exactly like the one my mother-in-law had sitting on an antique dry sink in front of her living room window.  I always worried about my kids breaking it, but they never did.  I wonder if she still has it.  And when I was just a little girl in the early 60's, my Dad was a tv repairman.  We not only had one of the first tv's on the block, we had 2.  My older sisters had a swivel television in their room, and no I was not allowed in to watch it.  :'-(

Every seller knows, display is everything.  The Treasure Cove is a collection of independent sellers, and you can always tell the sellers that care, from the sellers that don't, by the attention to detail.  When I remodel my kitchen, I plan to get rid of my cabinets and just fill the room with these old cupboards.  The china and knick-knacks look great on them.  And this Shabby Chic section was just lovely.  The lighting, the set up, it just drew me in, even though there is nothing in my house even close to being shabby chic.  That's a great display.

Now for fun, in the back room, we found this rickshaw.  Remember, we are at The Treasure Cove in tiny Taylorsville, NC.  Who in Taylorsville had a rickshaw???  LOL.  See you never know what you will find here, so if you're in the area, stop by.  And tell Benny we said "hey".  You'll like him, we do.

Oh, and this is also the place where we first met "the blue lady".

Remember the blue lady?

Do you remember some time back I shared with you the blue lady we came across at a local antique shop?  Here's the post, and her picture to refresh your memory.
Well, yesterday we took a trip to the antique shop just a few doors down and we found
