Friday Featured Artists - Rustic Craft

I love wood.  All types of wood.  I am one of those, that while I enjoy seeing the way people decorate their homes, and I usually like the end result, BUT when I see someone PAINT WOOD, I just cringe. hahaha
And while I enjoy a trip to the beach, I enjoy more a camping trip in the woods (as long as I have a flush toilet and running water).
So here is a shop I truly enjoy visiting....Rustic Craft on The Craft Star.

I love these little ring boxes.  Made with weddings in mind, these would also be great for any special occasion or special piece of jewelry.  With this box, you have a choice of wood and engravings.

Want to know something awesome about this husband and wife woodworking team?  They only use salvaged lumber and already fallen trees.  Eco-friendly.

How's this for ambient lighting? 4 tea lights in a beautiful piece of salvaged lumber would be wonderful on a mantel or as a centerpiece.  Again you can have this in your choice of wood, which is perfect for me since I tend to prefer the light colored woods.

You can check out more of their items in their video business card.

Now to meet the artist behind the wood, here is The Craft Star live sales show featuring Rustic Crafts.

So, stop on by Rustic Crafts and say hello.  And if you're looking for a great place to sell....nothing beats The Craft Star.

Window Shopping Wednesday (Yes I Know It's Thrusday)

It may be Thursday, but Window Shopping Wednesday has a certain ring to  it. lol

I don't know how others do it, but we get paid only once a month, so while yesterday we were dead flat broke, today we are loaded! (at least until I budget my monthly bills, hahaha)  So let's go shopping.....

First stop, The Craft Star...

Don't you just love these sunny fun feathered friends?  I saw a goldfinch in my yard yesterday...and the color was so bright it took my breath away.  This is a vintage painting framed and ready to hang from Timely Treasured Threads.

Cute, cute, cute.  Here is an adorable crochet hat, just in time for the back to school fashion parade.  According to the description, togs4tots2 can make this up to size 5T.  And I bet she could make it the color of your choice also if you just ask.

Here's a new item from my buddy Alix at The Alchemist Vessel.  I am amazed by chainmaill, and Alix is very talented with these little rings.  I just love these earrings with genuine amethyst beads.

Now let's visit Handmade Artists...

If you're a country gal (like me) you'll like this new offering from Tom's Crafts.  A working wooden horse mailbox.  Giddy up!

Then I hopped on over to Etsy.  I don't usually shop there anymore because it's hard to find original handmade items on the front page, so I checked up on some of my favorite shops.  It turns out that so many of my favorites are no longer selling there, but I did find an old friend of mine, Mystic Wynd.

Karen and I spent a lot of time together promoting other shops through our blog ring team, the BESTeam.  I see her more now over on facebook, but I wanted to share these totally groovy retro earrings.

Now I have to take some of you handmade artists to task...I absolutely love sharing and promoting new shops and items, BUT if your item photographs are dark or blurry, OR if you have not taken the time to fill out your profile and make up a shop banner, I will not feature you here.  No matter how much I like your item, I want my blog to be followed, and liked, and respected, and that will never happen if I don't work hard at it.  And I want my featured artists to feel the same way.

Do you have an online presence where you sell handmade or vintage?  Drop me a link in a comment, and you could end up as a featured artist too.

Debbi

Dressing up the Gardens

The temperatures are starting to climb, and today Hubby wants to shop and pick up his vegetables for the garden.  Hopefully we won't go crazy again this year. lol.  Hubby likes having a vegetable garden so he can drive his big tractor, but once he tills and turns and plants, he disappears.  The weeding and harvesting and canning?  Well, that's me.  But I would rather be working in my other gardens.  I have a small herb garden at the end of the back deck, a hummingbird garden near the woods, a rose and lily garden along the side of the house, a pond in the front yard, and grapes bushes and area around my pool and art studio.  It's a good thing I love wildflowers, they need so little upkeep. This week I am going shopping for decor to make my gardens pretty, and my first stop this week is at The Craft Star

I like things that make people stop and look.  I have several items in my gardens that you wouldn't expect, and this Magical Wooden Faerie Door would look cool in my herb garden.  I found this in the shop of Faerie Nursery.

Now this Bright Yard Art from Twins Treasure Trove would be PERFECT for my butterfly garden.  Not only does it have a butterfly, but it's ORANGE! hahaha  Got to have it.  This was created from vintage glassware, and you can find more of this type of yard art in their shop.  The next time The Craft Star has a live sale with these sisters, you have to come and meet them.  They are a hoot!

Oh yeah...this is the kind of house my feathered friends would love to call home.  I found this brightly colored whimsical bird house in the shop of Toms Crafts.  The colors of this house will show through any amount of leaves.
I love this flag!  It would look great in my pool garden.  And whenever I look at this Parrot of the Caribbean flag, I can think of Johnny Depp.  Ok, it may be a jump, but one I gladly take. hahaha. Hubba hubba Johnny, even with dirty hair and nasty teeth, you are a cutie. :0)  Look in the shop of Floozees Doozees for this flag and hundreds (and I mean hundreds) of other goodies.

Ok, that's my shopping wish list for today.  Remember, when you support handmade, you support small business.

The Craft Star is for the birds....

...bird lovers, that is.  And I am definetly a bird lover.  The past 2 weekends we have gotten new birds (which is driving my cat crazy) so I thought I would see what birdy items I could find at The Craft Star.

I love this vintage Sarah Coventry Bird Pendant.  When I was a teenager, there was a woman down the street that sold Sarah Coventry Jewelry, and I absolutely loved this line of jewelry.  It was trendy, and affordable for someone on a babysitting income.  I found this piece in the shop of Dobler Styles'.
I don't know about you, but I am so ready for summer.  Green grass, flowers, and garden decor.  I love the bright and bold colors on this Neon Sunset Heron Bird Flag.  I found this in the shop of Floozees Dozees.  Man, I love that name, hahaha.
Now, is this wall plaque awesome, or what???
It's a handmade 90 piece custom tropical bird wooden wall plaque by Tom's Crafts.  There are 6 different birds here, and Tom will paint them to match your own birds, to make it completely personal.  Very cool!  You can find all the birdy stuff at The Craft Star here.

Now let me show you our 2 new babies.

This is Victor. He's a parakeet. We had named him Violet (because of his color), but Hannah did a google search and has determined the she was a he, thence the name change to Victor.

And this is Sweets, he's a cockatiel.  And he's all mine.  Cockatiels bond to one person, so I have to take my time letting him get use to me.  I can't wait till he is a little older and starts to talk.
Fun!!!

my yard sale finds

Two weekends ago we helped our church do a good spring cleaning, and I cleaned up!  My daughter Hannah noticed some baskets in the back of the truck getting ready for a dump run, and before you know, she was dumpster diving...garbage picking is a talent she picked up from her dad. hahaha.  But I won't complain, because I benefited from her enthusiasm.  I got wonderful wicker baskets, beautiful glass ornament hangers, burlap, and other odds and ends, all for free.
Then on the way home, driving fast (Chuck was driving) something caught my eye...and I yelled out
"MILLENNIUM FALCON! STOP!"
I'm sure Chuck thought I had lost my mind...but as a collector of vintage toys, and a mother to 2 boys growing up in the 80's and 90's, how could I pass this up?  The lights and sounds all work...and I got it for only $2.00  What a deal.  Of course, this got our blood going so we stopped at another sale down the road.
That was where I found all this wonderful pine wood.  For $1.00!
Needless to say, I was one happy camper.
:0)
What was the best deal you ever found in a yard sale?

a good sale for a good lady

There is one big thing I learned here at Handmadeartists.com, they really care for each other.  I shared with you not too long ago the shop Janelle5.  She passed away not too long ago, and everything left in her shop is now 50% off and everything sold will go to her estate.  Just click on the discription of the items you would like to  purchase.

Have a wonderful evening everyone.  And don't forget to tell the people you love, while you still can.

HAF artist spotlight....Janelle.

This week the bloggers of Handmadeartists.com are sharing the items of the shop Jewelry By Janelle5.  As a newbie here, I did not have the opportunity to meet Janelle before her life was cut short too soon.  From what I hear others say about her, I surely missed meeting a wonderful and caring woman.  Now the members of our blog ring are sharing her shop to help her family complete this dream of Janelle's.  So all items in her shop are 50% off the original price, and all the money will go to her estate.  There aren't many pieces left, so hurry.  And I can see by what is left, that Janelle had a great talent for bringing out the beauty of wood.  Just look at these...

come meet the CAPSteam

We belong to several different Etsy teams, and I thought I would start to introduce you to some of my CAPSteam buddies.  CAPSteam stands for Christian Artists Promoting Shops team, and I feel the need to promote some of these great shops.  This will be an ongoing feature, since there are 483 members of this team, lol.

The first shop is also our team captain...Christie Cottage.  This shop carries jewelry supplies, original artwork, and hand sewn objects.  The item I chose from this shop is this wonderfully bright original acrylic painting.  It is a 16x20 standard size, so framing this would be oh so easy, and would look perfect anywhere.

Our next shop is tomroche, one of our CAPSteam leaders.  Tom is a retired Navy man (so was my dad, and is my granddaughter) and makes the most amazing creations with wood.  From trivets to jewelry boxes to cutting boards, the attention to detail is outstanding.  I love these Fat Cat, Kitty, and baby cutting boards.

And my last shop for now is our other team leader WatercolorsNmore.  Roxanne is an extremely talented water color artist.  And in her shop you'll find a broad range of items in a broad range of pricing, so anyone can afford some original artwork.  I love my country, and I love this American Eagle.  It is acrylic and watercolor and measures a cute 6x6.
Be sure to stop by these shops and enjoy browsing all they have to offer.
